70 Years of Magic Memories: Why Now Is the Perfect Time to Celebrate Happy at Disneyland

In a world full of daily demands and digital distractions, there are few places left that still know how to deliver pure joy. Disneyland is one of them. This year, the “Happiest Place on Earth” turns 70. And while the nostalgia is powerful, what’s even more remarkable is how this iconic theme park continues to evolve—welcoming new generations, embracing deeper representation, and creating spaces where all families, especially Black and Brown families, can see themselves in the magic. Here’s some reasons why NOW is the perfect time to #CelebrateHappy.

A Celebration Rooted in Community and Culture

Disneyland’s 70th anniversary is more than just a milestone—it’s a cultural moment. The celebration arrives at a time when audiences are more diverse, more discerning, and more digitally immersed than ever before. We’re seeing more inclusivity in characters, storylines, and cast members. Princess Tiana finally has her own dedicated bayou ride, and characters from “Encanto” and “Turning Red” now walk the same parade route once dominated by princesses with tiaras but little cultural nuance.

Representation matters, especially for our children. When they see a Black princess running her own restaurant or dance along to sounds from the diaspora during a Main Street celebration, they’re witnessing a new kind of fairytale—one where they are centered, valued, and celebrated. That’s branding with intention and cultural intelligence. And it’s exactly why now is the time to go.

Making Memories That Matter with a Smart Investment in Joy

For families seeking a break from the headlines and a chance to reconnect, Disneyland offers a rare escape. It’s not just about the rides; it’s about the shared laughter, the hand-in-hand wonder, and the lifelong memories made between churros and fireworks. Whether you grew up watching Disney classics or are experiencing the park for the first time, It’s legacy and future, wrapped in joy.

Yes, Disneyland is an investment—but so is joy. So is togetherness. And so is giving our children the chance to dream big and play freely. With flexible ticket packages, SoCal resident deals, and new diversity-centered programming, the park is making it more accessible for families from all backgrounds to be part of this historic moment.

  1. Let’s talk about #DowntownDisney! Under the leadership of General Manager Lindell Skinner, Downtown Disney was created for those who can’t get into the park. “We wanted to bring the culture of Disney out of the park so that you still have the Disney Experience,” he continues. This one-of-a-kind destination combines a unique mix of shops, dining and entertainment, sitting in-between Disneyland parkDisney California Adventure park and the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort. Depending on the season, closing hours range between 10pm-1am. Lindell told me Downtown Disney will celebrate Its 25th anniversary January 12th, 2026.
    • I visited the NEW! Parkside Market which is the first Downtown Disney food hall, featuring 4 exciting venues that offer diverse culinary concepts including
      • Sip & Sonder – Black women-owned brand that has been recognized as one of the best cafés in L.A. Founded by Amanda-Jane Thomas and Shanita Nicholas. Serves lattes, fresh treats, frozen drinks and delicious small bites.
    • I also had dinner and ended both days with a night cap at Splitsville Luxury Lanes. I didn’t get to bowl but I had one of the best mini cheesecakes ever!
  2. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure! – After hearing our Culture Critic Dawn rave about her experience, I knew I had to see it for myself. While I didn’t get the chance to dine at her restaurant, the experience still struck a deeply personal chord. As a Creole woman with roots in Louisiana—my father’s home state—I was genuinely moved by how thoughtfully Disney captured the spirit, rhythm, and richness of my heritage. It wasn’t just a ride; it felt like a celebration of home.
  3. Once in a Lifetime Experiences & Keepsakes – If you know me, you know I live for a good experience. The light show and the Wondrous Journey fireworks show felt like a warm hug from Walt Disney himself, gently reminding us to keep dreaming boldly and to always find a reason to celebrate happy—whatever that looks like for you. I am still trying to find someone to purchase the Talking Mickey Mouse Popcorn Bucket and ship it to me. Check out my TikTok  to see more of my adventures and what I collected.

Why Go Now?

Because magic doesn’t wait. Because 70 years of storytelling, innovation, and cultural growth deserves to be celebrated. And because, in a world that often asks so much of us, Disneyland offers something rare. So pack the bags, gather the crew, and make your way to Anaheim. Go this Memorial Day weekend, plan a summer vacation, or experience winter’s wonder in the land of Happiness. The castle is still standing, the music is still playing—and the magic is still here, waiting for you.

Sybil Crum, Vice President of Marketing & Commercial Strategy at Disneyland Resort, reminded me that the official 70th anniversary is July 17—but I’m celebrating early: Happy 70th, Disneyland! Here’s to honoring the magic of the past while boldly dreaming into the future.
