4 Ways to Love Being Single on February 14th

Here we are 3 days removed from the day the entire world celebrates love. But lets be honest, it is also a day that singles get ostracized, and sometimes not on purpose. Statistics still show a heightened percentage of depression around this time of the year. What makes it even worst, is that we live (even more so today) in a social media centered world. Singles may feel forced to have to validate why they are single, why they aren’t sad that they are not getting surprised gifts of candy, teddy bears, and roses. People tease others by saying this is #MainChickHoliday, or dictate that if you get nothing, someone else is getting it.

It also doesn’t help that people are self-centered, and some are just down right idiots who ask (all of a sudden on this day): “Do you have a date? What are you doing? Why don’t you celebrate?”. Here they are Facebook/Twitter/Instagram Friends with these people all this long time, looking at their timeline, seeing that they are obviously single, but they shoot those lack of common sense questions anyway. It’s such a big deal that there is a #ValentinesClapBack (much like #ThanksgivingClapBack) Hashtag created and waiting for the 14th at the door! Enough is enough thus says the singles.

Outside of clapping back, there are actually a couple of ways that singles can turn possibly the saddest day in their single life around. Certified Love-Life Coach, Wendi J. Turner gives 4 simple ways to embrace and spread love this season.

Here are some of Wendi’s helpful tips below:

  • 1. Singles should keep in mind that Valentine’s Day is “just a day”; therefore treat it as a regular day. Believe it or not, there are some people who actually do not celebrate this day and this is what they do every year. There are also couples who feel that love should be shown every day and thus have also adapted this mindset. So don’t feel rejected, don’t feel as if something is wrong with you. It’s just a day, treat it as such.
  • 2. Valentine’s Day is supposed to be a day of love, so it’s ideal to show love during this time. Try to give back to those that are in need during this time i.e, providing chocolate to loved ones, feeding the homeless, volunteering at a nursing home, etc. Utilize the day to spread love. Although some treat it as a glorified who can get/give the best gift, or who can make their picture of said gift go viral on social media. Use what its supposed to be about for good. Giving back to the community or just giving your time in general to people less fortunate than you has been proven to uplift spirits. As the Queen of National Days (Youtube.com/ItsNationalDay Make sure you Sub!) the 14th kicks off #RAKWEEK or Random Acts of Kindness Week so you would be right on time!
  • 3. Treat yourself to a romantic weekend. Spa Day, Movie Marathon, or Staycation at a nearby cabin. Go all out, take advantage of the candy, wine, chocolate covered strawberries and treat yourself. Book that hotel right in your own city (Suburbs because most likely couples who do staycations tend to go in city) and just spoil yourself. A nice bath and a facial or foot massage will not only have your heart thanking you, but our body as well. You probably need it and don’t even know it. Remember to stay away from sad music and movies that will get you in your feels, that’s the last thing that’s needed.
  • 4. Find a place where other singles will be able to mingle. If you use this day to meet other singles or to change your single status, it can be extremely hard. People usually are over confident or just too desperate and aggressive. This is where Wendi comes in. She has created a fun (free) event “Mingling Moguls” for singles to connect on February 11th (Today) at Crave Restaurant. This is not your typical singles meet up. Mingling Moguls is exactly that. Like minded business professionals, movers and shakers in the community, who wants to meet up to network. To date, Wendi has successfully matched and married 12 couples, she is ready to match like minded, young moguls together in hopes of them maybe becoming additional couples. Link to event: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/wendi-j-turner-host-mingling-moguls-for-singles-tickets-21071624797
