HOUSTON TX– Sister2Sistah will introduce its first dinner party on Saturday, April 18, 2015 from 6:00-9:30 p.m. at a private location. This dinner party is aimed to advise and uplift young women who have encountered different struggles in their lifetime. Several expert guest speakers will be in attendance touching on topics such as financial responsibility, relationships, health and other hardships young women often encounter in today’s world. The evening’s benefactor will be The Dwight D. and Sheryl H. Howard Foundation.

Many people have a past, some of it littered with scars and, believe it or not, it gives those people a common bond that should be unbreakable. Both Rebecca and Nakia have participated in various speaking engagements and panel discussions, and while mentoring many college students, noticed that too many have experienced some form of abuse or struggle. This private dinner is for college-aged women only who will be mentored by women from all walks of life. The mentors will have the opportunity to talk, heal and help others who are currently experiencing or have experienced domestic abuse, homelessness, drug addiction, rape /date rape/ molestation, or even career struggles with navigating Corporate America and challenges in the workplace. Photo and networking opportunities will be offered within the first 45 minutes. From there, the young ladies will be given makeovers by “Strength by Nature.” Next, the guest speakers will give testimonials and advise. Topics will include “Get Your Money Right,” by Sherita Runnels; “Understanding Healthy Relationships,” by Cameka Crawford; “Importance of Understanding Well Woman’s Issues and Sexual Health,” by Rochelle Walker; and “Do You! Overcoming Adversity and Hardships In Order to Manifest Your Destiny,” by Nakia Cooper, Rebecca Briscoe, Jami Bertrand and Yolanda Lee. Sister2Sistah aims to give young women who’ve experienced some setbacks the chance to see that hard times won’t last forever. With determination and hard work anyone can be successful. The founders, Rebecca Briscoe and Nakia Cooper, were inspired by their own struggles to create
a platform where young women are given a fighting chance to be someone. These influential women come from a place of understanding. The organization’s motto couldn’t be more fitting. “From hurt to healing, we’re all in this together.”

About Rebecca Briscoe
Rebecca Briscoe is the National Entertainment and Sports Feature Reporter for Houston Style Magazine. Rebecca is an aggressive mover and shaker who has garnered interviews with Ambassador Andrew Young, Tina Knowles, Joe Namath, Deion Sanders, Lebron James and supermodel Beverly Johnson, to name a few. Making history is simply not an option; it’s expected, in Rebecca’s eyes. Rebecca’s due diligence allowed Houston Style Magazine to become the first minority publication ever to cover the ESPY’s since the award show’s 20-year inception. Beauty may be in the eyes of the beholder, but the former Ebony Fashion Fair model’s credentials are just as impressive. Rebecca holds a BS in Education from Louisiana State University, a Masters in Public Administration from Texas Southern University and a post-graduate certificate in Homeland Security from the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A & M. She was also the youngest instructor on staff in her department at Houston Community College. Her most
recent accolade was being awarded one of the Top 25 Women of Houston for her hard work, discipline and diligence. Rebecca has continuously broken barriers in her respective field and left an indelible mark on the face of Houston.

About Nakia Cooper
Nakia Cooper is a mother and mentor, in addition to being a media professional. She is currently the Senior Web Editor/ Producer at KPRC/ Click2Houston.com, and is the former Senior Producer of Digital Media for KHOU.com. During her five years at KHOU, Nakia and her team won one Emmy, three Edward R. Murrow, two Associated Press (AP) and two Lone Star Press Awards. Most recently, Nakia has added another award to the list when the Click2Houston team won the 2014 AP Award for Best Website. Nakia is a self-proclaimed “Web Goddess” who is an expert in the rapidly expanding field of digital media. This passionate writer and storyteller is also the Owner/ Editor-in-Chief of Lip Service: NewsWithAttitude.com, a Houston-based blog site featuring local and national topics of interest. Nakia graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Journalism from Texas Southern University, where she served as president of the TSU Association of Black Journalists. Currently, Nakia is Vice President of Multimedia for the Houston Association of Black Journalists and is on the Board of Directors for the Houston Greeters, led by former city councilman and immigration attorney Gordon Quan.
